We tested the Steam Controller

We tested the Steam Controller

The age of new Steam-based hardware is upon us. What will Valve’s new devices mean for the world of game development? Who is most likely to buy these products? And is it actually fun to play PC-first games on the Steam Controller?

Luckily, we have some answers—especially to that last question. A few weeks ago, Valve sent Game Developer a pair of Steam Controllers to test out, giving us a rare first look at this cutting-edge hardware. From the Steam Puck, to the trackpads, to the millimeters of space between the X button and the right joystick, we scrutinized it all.

On this week’s episode of the Game Developer Podcast, freelance contributor Alessandro Fillari joins us to weigh the pros and cons of the Steam Controller.
