Epic announces Fortnite collab program to bolster store sales

Epic Games has announced a program that aims to increase sales on the Epic Games Store by “leveraging the marketing power” of Fortnite

The news was shared via the 2025 year-in-review for the digital store. According to the company, people who purchase participating games will obtain a Fortnite cosmetic along with a matching character avatar for their Epic account profile.

Epic says the program will be available in the first half of the year. So far, partners include Capcom, miHoYo, Pearl Abyss, S-Game, MintRocket, and Kakao Games, with more to be announced in the coming months.

This isn’t the first time that Epic has offered Fortnite items as a purchase incentive. Pre-orders for Borderlands 3 on the Epic Games Store, as well as all future sales for the following year, netted players with a cosmetic bundle in Fortnite. A similar promotion for Borderlands 4 is currently underway.

Speaking to Polygon, vice president and general manager of EGS Steve Allison said that 40 games released in 2026 will include Fortnite items as a “gift with purchase,” including Resident Evil Requiem and Crimson Desert.

“I’ve been pushing on this since I got here,” Allison told Polygon. “I actually talked about it with Tim [Sweeney] before I even took a job on the team. Back when I was at Telltale, we took advantage of Team Fortress 2 hats and cosmetics, and we [gave] them away when you bought Sam and Max and a couple other games… If you bought the game on Steam, you got the hat in Team Fortress 2, and our titles would rocket to the top of the charts.”

According to the year-in-review report, Fortnite was the top PC game title in 2025 by “player spend and engagement.” The report accounted for over 317 million total PC users.

Epic also emphasized third-party games, which saw a 57 percent increase in player spending, reaching $400 million. According to the company, people spent 2.78 billion hours in third-party games.

In related news, during Unite 2025 in November, Unity and Epic Games announced a partnership to give Unity developers the ability to push their titles into the Fortnite ecosystem, which has over 500 million registered accounts worldwide. Starting this year, Unity devs will be able to participate in the Fortnite Creator Economy, with Epic CEO Tim Sweeney noting that 40 percent of playtime on Fortnite is currently spent in third-party experiences built by independent developers.
